The Sudanese Police stormed the dorms of Red Sea University, arresting 100 students

Red Sea State police stormed one of the dormitories of Red Sea University in the city of Port Sudan. Dozens of students were wounded while about 100 were arrested during the aggressive raid which occurred after the outbreak of protests and demonstrations close to Sewak road. The previous evening, the students had come out in a peaceful demonstration to protest the poor conditions in student housing and they blocked the main street leading to Suakin. In Port Sudan, witnesses confirmed that the police beat the students and used teargas and the raid resulted in dozens of injuries. One of the witnesses confirmed that Abdulmoniem Mahmoud, one of the students, was injured as a result of the beatings and had clear marks on his body in addition to being subjected to suffocating tear gas. The police filed a complaint against the arrested students under Article 77 of the Sudanese Criminal Code (public nuisance), while they refused to allow their families to see them or bail them out until they had finished the interrogations, causing widespread anger.



الشرطة تقتحم داخليات جامعة البحر الأحمر وتعتقل (100) طالب

اقتحمت شرطة ولاية البحر الأحمر احدى داخليات الطلاب بمدينة بورتسودان مساء امس الجمعة وأصابت عشرات الطلاب بجروح فيما اعتقلت حوالي ( 100) طالب بعد اندلاع احتجاجات ومظاهرات أغلقت طريق سواكن.

وخرج مساء أمس الجمعة طلاب جامعة البحر الأحمر في مظاهرات سلمية احتجاجا على اوضاع الداخليات(سكن الطلاب) واغلقوا الشارع الرئيس المؤدي الى سواكن .

وأكد شهود اعيات في بورتسودان ان الشرطة اعتدت بالضرب على المحتجين واستخدمت قنابل الغاز المسيل للدموع ، وأسفرت المداهمة عن جرح عشرات. .

و كشف مرافق لاحد الطلاب المصابين عن آثار ضرب ظاهرة علي جسد الطالب عبد المنعم محمود بجانب تأثره بالغاز الخانق.

الى ذلك دونت الشرطة بلاغات ضد الطلاب المعتقلين، واتهمتهم ” بالإزعاج العام تحت المادة 77 ، فيما رفضت اجراء ضمانات أو مقابلتهم الا بعد اكتمال التحريات الشيء الذي قابله عدد من ذوي الطلاب بسخط .
