The Delegation of the European Union to Sudan honors journalist Mahjoub Mohammed Salih the medal for Champions of Human Rights

The Delegation of the European Union to Sudan awarded Mr. Mahjoub Mohammed Salih, writer, journalist and thinker the medal for Champions of Human Rights 2017. At the age of 89, Mahjoub Mohammed Salih has devoted his work to the defense of human rights and press freedoms in Sudan. Mr. Salih’s journalism career started in 1949 and was elected Secretary -General to the Sudanese Press Association in 1952. He is also a founding member of the African Journalists Union and the Arab Journalists Union. He co-founded Al Ayam Daily newspaper in 1953. He won the Golden PEN award from South Korea, in addition to awards from Morocco, Germany and the USA. The celebration event featured a speech by Ambassador Jean-Michel Dumond, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Sudan and musical performance by Abu Araki al- Bakhit along with other activities.

منح الإتحاد الأوربي في السودان الأستاذ محجوب محمد صالح ميدالية أبطال حقوق الإنسان لعام 2017 ، محجوب هو كاتب وصحفي ومفكر. يبلغ ال 89 عام من العمر ، وإحتوت فعالية الاحتفال كلمة لسفير الاتحاد الاوربي في السودان جان ميشيل وغناء الفنان ابوعركي البخيت بجانب فعاليات أخرى مصاحبة للبرنامج ، وظل الأستاذ محجوب محمد صالح مواصل نشاطه في الدفاع عن حقوق الإنسان والحريات الصحفية في السودان. بدأ مهنته الصحفية في عام 1949 وانتخب أمينا عاما لجمعية الصحافة السودانية في عام 1952. محجوب هو عضو مؤسس لاتحاد الصحفيين الأفريقيين واتحاد الصحفيين العرب. وشارك في تأسيس صحيفة "الأيام" في عام 1953. وحصل على جائزة القلم الذهبي من كوريا الجنوبية وجوائز من المغرب وألمانيا والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
