The Public Order court accuses women’s activists Winnie Omar of indecent clothing

On Sunday evening, December 10, 2017, human rights defender Winnie Omar was harassed by a police officer and a prosecutor in front of her office in Khartoum, accusing her of wearing un-Islamic attire. The police officer and prosecutor filed a case against Ms. Omar in the Public Order Court of al-Deyom in the capital Khartoum, wherein the Court postponed the hearing to next Monday. Ms. Omar said that she was wearing the same clothes previously during a solidarity stand in the Court in issues of concern to women. She expressed her shock that the complainant was someone other than the ones who arrested her. Sudanese women suffer from a government crackdown on them because of they choose what to wear.


تم توقيف الناشطة الحقوقية ويني عمر، أمسية الأحد الموافق 10 ديسمبر 2017، بواسطة ضابط شرطة ووكيل نيابة، أمام مقر عملها، بتهمة إرتداء الزي الفاضح، وذلك عقب ساعات من تبرئة محكمة لـ 24 فتاة من ذات التهم. وفتح في مواجهتها بلاغ بمحكمة النظام العام بحي الديم بالعاصمة الخرطوم فيما أرجأت المحكمة البت في القضية ليوم الإثنين المقبل
وقالت الناشطة النسوية ويني عمر إنه تم توقيفها بذات الملابس التي شهدت بها وقفة تضامنية مع الفتيات اللاتي تم توقيفهن بواسطة أفراد شرطة النظام العام من داخل حفل نسائي.
معربة عن دهشتها من كون الشاكي شخص أخر خلافاً لمن قاموا بتوقيفها.
وتشكو النساء السودانيات من حملة حكومية مسعورة ضدهن بسبب ما يرتدين.
