Sudanese authorities use excessive force and arrest 400 demonstrators.

Thousands of Sudanese citizens took to the streets in the capital Khartoum and other cities in Sudan, protesting the incredible price hike of basic food necessities, in particular the price of bread. Citizens responded to the peaceful march that was called to by the opposition parties which civil society organizations, unions and university student groups responded to. Demonstrators gathered in central Khartoum nearby the presidential palace gardens, chanting slogans that denounce the 2018 national budget. Police and affiliates of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) used excessive force to disperse the crowds, including beatings with batons and sticks and firing tear gas. The security forces detained 400 people, whereas some were released, many others are detained incommunicado with no access to lawyers and no communication with their families. On the parallel, the authorities also repressed the media from covering the peaceful demonstrations as it confiscated several newspapers after print, detained 15 journalist and correspondents along with tens of lawyers and human rights defenders.

تظاهر آلاف السودانيين بالعاصمة الخرطوم وعدة مدن أخرى منددين بالغلاء وارتفاع أسعار المواد الغذائية خاصة الخبز. وتجاوب المواطنين مع الموكب السلمي الذي دعت له أحزاب المعارضة فوجد إستجابة من النقابات ومنظمات المجتمع المدني، وطلاب الجامعات . واحتشد المتظاهرون وسط الخرطوم بالقرب من حدائق القصر الجمهوري، رافعين شعارات تندد بميزانية 2018 . تصدت لهم قوات الشرطة والأمن مستخدمة القوة المفرطة والاعتقال التعسفي بين صفوف المتظاهرين، بما فى ذلك الضرب بالعصى والهراوات واطلاق الغاز المسيل على الحشود. واحتجزت السلطات 400 متظاهر، أفرجت عن بعضهم واعتقلت الأخرين في أماكن مجهولة دون إتاحة الاتصال بعائلاتهم والمحامين . وأن السلطات قمعت كذلك وسائل الاعلام من تغطية التظاهرة السلمية ، فصادر جهاز الأمن عدداً من الصحف، واعتقال (15) صحفياً ومراسل واعتقال عشرات المحامين والمدافعين عن حقوق الانسان .
