A Pharmacist was killed under Torture in Gereida

On January 10, 2017 the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) in Gereida region of South Darfur arrested six medical professionals working in Gereida Hospital. The six men were not charged formally except for alleged involvement in illegal sales of the hospital’s emergency drugs to private pharmacies. According to existing information, the men detained were subjected to beatings and insults by NISS affiliates before five of them were released. However, the pharmacist at Gereida Hospital Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed was kept in detention for a longer period than his colleagues, where he died on January 12, 2017. It is believed that Dr. Ahmed was tortured during his detention as signs of torture were visible on his body including a wound by a sharp object.
In the evening of January, 12, NISS transferred Dr. Ahmed’s body to Gereida hospital, where the hospital director called the family of the deceased to come receive his body but the family refused to and demanded an autopsy. The family of the deceased said that they were denied access to obtain the Criminal Medical Form 8 which is used in criminal proceedings that are assocaited with death and/or serious wounds. In the morning of January 13, NISS transferred the body of Dr. Ahmed to the city of Nayla’s main hospital in South Darfur at the request of the President of Gereida locality. Subsequently, Nayla Hospital released its medical report declaring that Dr. Ahmed’s death was of natural causes, a conclusion that is rejected firmly by the deceased family that insists that their son died as a result of torture. Dr. Ahmed’s family and human rights groups called for the Sudanese government to launch an immediate, public, fair and thorough investigation in respect to information that Dr. Ahmed’s death was a result of torture and to bring the officials that perpetrated this to account.

ألقى جهاز الأمن والمخابرات الوطني بمنطقة قريضة جنوبي دارفور في 10 يناير القبض على عدد ستة من العاملين في القطاع الطبي بمستشفى قريضة وتم احتجازهم دونما توجيه اتهامات رسمية إليهم، سوى دعاوى تورطهم في مبيعات غير قانونية لعقاقير الطوارئ الخاصة بالمستشفى لصيدليات خاصة. وتشير معلومات متوفرة إلى أن المحتجزين تعرضوا للضرب والشتائم من جانب أفراد الأمن قبيل إطلاق سراح خمسة منهم . أما الصيدلاني بمستشفى قريضة ، أحمد محمد أحمد، فقد تم استبقاؤه أطول من زملائه قيد الاحتجاز حيث مات في الـ 12 من يناير. ويسود اعتقاد بأن أحمد تعرض لتعذيب شديد أثناء احتجازه حيث تظهر على جسده علامات تعذيب، بينها جرح بآلة صلبة. وفي مساء الـ 12 من يناير، توجّه جهاز الأمن بجثة أحمد إلى مستشفى قريضة، حيث اتصل مدير المستشفى بعائلة المتوفى لاستلامها، وهو ما رفضته العائلة التي اشترطت عمل تشريح للجثة في المستشفى؛ وقالت عائلة المتوفى إنهم مُنعوا من الحصول على استمارة(8) الجنائية والتي تستخدم في إجراءات المحاكمات الجنائية المتعلقة بالموت أو الجروح البالغة. وفي فجر الـ 13 من يناير، حوّل جهاز الأمن جثة المتوفى إلى مستشفى نيالا الرئيسي في ولاية جنوب دارفور بناء على طلبات من رئيس محلية قريضة . وفي مستشفى نيالا صدر تقرير طبي يقول إن أسباب وفاة أحمد طبيعية . وهو ما ترفضه قطعيا عائلة المتوفى وتصرّ على أنه مات نتيجة التعذيب أثناء احتجازه لدى جهاز الأمن. فيما دعت أسرة المتوفي ومنظمات حقوقية السلطات السودانية إلى التحقيق الفوري والشامل والعادل والعلني والنزيه في الدعاوى المتواترة بشأن التعذيب والمعاناة التي قادت إلى موت الصيدلاني أحمد وإخضاع المسؤولين للمساءلة.
